Whether you’re 22 years old or 75 years old, physical exercise is a great way to keep yourself active and healthy. Did you know that regular physical activity can prevent or delay many of the health problems that seem to come with age.

Move More and Sit Less

Some physical activity is better than none. By moving more and sitting less you can improve your brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease and various other health benefits.

Work out at home

Workout from the comfort of your home using just your body weight. According to the CDC adults aged 65 or older need:

  • At least 150 minutes a week (for example, 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week) of moderate intensity activity such as brisk walking. Or they need 75 minutes a week of vigorous-intensity activity such as hiking, jogging, or running.
  • At least 2 days a week of activities that strengthen muscles.
  • Activities to improve balance such as standing on one foot about 3 days a week.

More information and details can be found on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – Physical Activity.

Other online resources

There are several online resources for beginning and intermediate level at home exercises. Additionally, don’t hesitate to ask your community about their fitness offerings! We recommend you meet with your doctor to determine what plan is best for you.
