Caregiving can be stressful and often requires a great deal of time and commitment. It is often the love you have for the care receiver that keeps you going. Caregivers are not alone and have access to many services that provide support to caregivers when an occasional break is needed. Adult day services offer an ideal alternative to caregivers by providing a daytime care environment outside the home.
Six hours a day of adult services is only about 20% of the cost of bringing someone into the home for the same amount of hours!
Adult Day Services, or respite care, have the dual purpose of providing a break to the caregiver but are also a valuable resource for care receivers as well! These programs provide care and supervision in a protective setting for the care receiver.
Possible benefits to the care receiver:
• Socializing with peers
• Meal and snacks
• Exercise programs
• Health monitoring
• Medication Management
• Break from caregiver
• Activities such crafts, gardening, cooking etc.
Possible benefits to the caregiver:
• Time to self
• Free to attend work
• Break from care receiver
• Catch up on to-do list
• Delay moving your loved one to a community
